Online Peer Consultation for Counselors and Social Workers Who are Licensed in Maryland

Youโ€™ve jumped through all the hoops to get licensed, and now youโ€™ve been doing impactful clinical work just like you wanted.  Unfortunately, you sometimes also feel isolated in your own little silo and wish you had other people with whom you could consult! You love the work youโ€™re doing, but not having community or access to others who can support you with your clinical work is a challenge, and the responsibility can be heavy!

Weโ€™ve seen the many requests for consultation groups in our local community, and thatโ€™s why weโ€™re creating the Seasons Clinicians Peer Consultation Group!

What is the Seasoned Peer Consultation Group?

The Seasoned Clinicians Peer Consultation Group is designed to be a monthly peer consultation group for fully-licensed counselors or social workers in Maryland with at least 2 years of experience doing therapy.  The peer consultation group is for clinicians who want case consultation support from other seasoned clinicians and opportunities to share your own knowledge and expertise with peers. Peer consultation groups will be scheduled for an hour and a half each month, and theyโ€™ll be held online.

Who is the Seasoned Clinicians Peer Consultation Group Designed for?

The Seasoned Clinicians Peer Consultation Group is for counselors and social workers who:

  • are fully licensed

  • have at least 2 years of experience providing therapy

  • need access to consistently scheduled case consultation to provide quality care to their clients

  • would love to use documented case consultation attendance for the Category B or Category II CEs they need for license renewal

  • understand that we all have something to teach, and we all have something to learn, and therefore want to both offer support, knowledge, and expertise to other clinicians and receive their support, knowledge, and expertise to support you.

  • would love to build community and connection by regularly meeting with other Maryland-based providers while also getting consultation needs met.

Whatโ€™s the Purpose of the Seasoned Clinicians Case Consultation Group?

The seasoned clinicians case consultation group is designed to ensure that fully licensed clinicians still have access to the clinical support they want and need. While youโ€™re no longer required to undergo supervision, that doesnโ€™t mean you donโ€™t want your own clinical supports in place to provide you with feedback, observations, and other perspectives. The primary purpose of this group is for social workers and counselors to have a consistently scheduled date/time where they can present cases for clinical consultation.

 FAQs

  • You can make the most of your experience in the Seasoned Clinicians Peer Consultation Group by attending all peer consultation sessions, showing up on time and staying for the duration of the meeting, and by coming prepared with a list of cases that you would like to review. You can also make the most of your experience by being intentional about getting to know others in the consultation group and by learning more about them and their approach to clinical work.

  • This is a question we sometimes get when offering services to therapists. At LifeSpring, everyone on our team gets paid for the work that they do. Putting together a quality peer consultation group that meets regularly is a team effort involving our therapists and administrative team.

As therapists, we are often found talking about the struggles of working with insurance companies, given how they compensate us. At the same time, we are also often expecting to get free services from one another. At LifeSpring, our stance is that people deserve to be paid for their labor and that paying people for their work allows for a service that is consistent, quality, and able to be maintained over time. We hope that you too are open to supporting your community colleagues for their time, energy, and expertise.

  • Yes, Yes, and Yes! A few years ago, we reviewed the requirements as outlined by the Maryland Board of Social Work and the Maryland Board of Counselors and Therapists. We then created our own documentation form to meet both Boardsโ€™ requirements for tracking attendance and participation in order to use case consultation time as CEs for license renewal.
