Masters-Level Counseling Internships at LifeSpring Counseling Services

LifeSpring Counseling Services is now interviewing for Fall-Spring 2023 internships. All counseling services are virtual at this time.

When considering future internship, externship, or practicum sites, it’s important that you consider your personal goals, the type of experience you are looking for, and the type of site you want to be at. To help facilitate this process, we have included information below about our expectations of student interns and the type of experience you can expect to get at our office. Details on how to apply are listed below for those students who believe that their wants, needs, and aspirations are a good fit with our practices’ mission, vision, and expectations. 

What You Can Expect

  • Providing virtual counseling services to adults dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, and difficult life transitions

    Charting and documentation

    Accepting payment from clients

    Communicating and following through with communicated boundaries in their clinical work

    Identifying clinical areas of interest and working on developing a niche

    Learning about work at a group practice

    Individual therapy and group therapy

    Marketing, outreach, and putting yourself out there

  • Highly motivated

    Eager to learn

    Open to receiving feedback

    Reliable, dependable, punctual, and professional

    Detail-oriented

    Mindful of the need to have open communication & a good working relationship with their site supervisor

    Willing to try new things and put themselves out there

    Willing to participate in marketing, networking, and outreach

    In alignment with LifeSpring’s mission, vision, and values (refer to our home page and about page for more information)

    Interested in helping clients with depression, anxiety, grief, and difficult life transitions

    Interested in learning about providing trauma-informed care

    Interested in Brainspotting

    Interested in group therapy

    Looking for an internship site that could potentially turn into a place of employment post-graduation.

  • Accepting interns is a commitment of time, energy, staffing, and finances for any agency. In order for LifeSpring Counseling Services and its interns to have the most valuable experience, we require the following from our interns:

    ∙ A commitment of 2 consecutive semesters at LifeSpring (Fall & Spring only at this time)

    ∙ Co-facilitating a therapy group each semester

    ∙ Completion of Phase 1 Brainspotting training in the Spring Semester (with financial assistance from LifeSpring)

    ∙ Day-time availability for supervision

    ∙ Able to be at internship one evening per week if needed for group therapy

    ∙ Marketing, networking, and outreach exercises, including social media, throughout the semester
